When a document fails to process
What a processing error on a Rhazes reference document means, how to retry it, and what to check in the file when it keeps failing.

What you see
A document that failed shows Processing failed, with a note that there was an error analysing it.
What it means in practice
The file is uploaded and visible, but it was never indexed, so it cannot be searched. A chat or a workflow pointed at that space will not find anything in it. This is not a cosmetic problem, and the space will quietly under-answer until you deal with it.
Retry first
Open the item menu and choose Retry processing. You do not have to upload the file again.
Do this before investigating anything, because a failure is often transient rather than anything wrong with your file.
If it keeps failing
Check the file itself:
- Is it a real PDF? A file renamed to
.pdfis not one. - Is there text in it? A scan of a photocopy that is barely legible to you is barely legible to a machine.
- Is it under 40MB? Very large documents are worth splitting anyway, since a 900 page compendium as a single file makes every answer harder to trace back.
- Is it password protected? A locked PDF cannot be read.
