Choosing a theme

Appearance offers light and dark. Each is shown as a preview painted in its own colours, so you are looking at the actual background you would get rather than a swatch approximating it.

It does not apply until you save

Press Save theme to apply it. Selecting one only selects it.

This catches people out for a second, and it is worth the trade. A theme that flipped the whole interface the instant you brushed a radio button would be a jarring thing to trigger by accident in the middle of a clinic.

It follows your account

The theme is saved to your account rather than to the browser, so signing in on another machine gives you the theme you chose rather than starting again on the default.

Which to pick

Dark tends to be easier on a night shift and on a dim ward. Light is generally better for anything you will read closely for a long stretch, and better again if you are showing your screen to a patient.

There is no functional difference. Nothing is hidden in one and shown in the other.
