Thank you for attending your consultation today.
This letter summarises the main points discussed during our visit.
Issues Discussed
- Sore ear and mild fever
Diagnoses
- Middle ear infection
Next Steps for Management
- We have prescribed an antibiotic medicine called amoxicillin (Amoxil) to clear the infection in your ear.
- We recommend using over-the-counter pain relief, such as paracetamol (Panadol), to help manage the earache and lower your fever.
- You will need to return for a review if your symptoms do not start to improve after three days.
Tasks for You
- Take one 500 mg capsule of amoxicillin (Amoxil) by mouth three times a day for five days, until you finish the packet.
- Take 1,000 mg of paracetamol (Panadol) by mouth every four to six hours as needed for pain, making sure you do not take more than 4,000 mg in a 24-hour period.
- Rest at home and drink plenty of water.
- Book a follow-up appointment with our clinic if your pain gets worse, your fever remains high after three days, or you notice any fluid leaking from your ear.
Please contact our office if you have any questions or would like further explanation about any of the points discussed.
