Re: Marcus Vance DOB: 14/08/1978
Thank you for sending Marcus Vance to me at Peak Performance Physiotherapy, Subiaco. He was seen 10 days after an acute right lateral ankle sprain sustained during social basketball. PMHx is unremarkable; Nil regular meds, takes ibuprofen 400 mg PO TID PRN for pain.
At the first assessment, O/E revealed moderate lateral malleolar oedema, tenderness over the ATFL, positive anterior drawer test, and R ankle dorsiflexion ROM limited to -5 degrees. He was ambulating with an antalgic gait and unable to single-leg stance on the R or participate in work duties as a carpenter.
Treatment to date has included manual therapy (talocrural AP glides), soft tissue mobilisation, proprioceptive retraining, and a progressive theraband strengthening HEP.
After 4 sessions, R ankle dorsiflexion has improved to 8 degrees (knee-to-wall), oedema has resolved, and he has returned to full-time light duties at work with an ankle brace. We will continue rehab for another 3 weeks to focus on plyometrics and return-to-sport criteria.
